A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja has summoned Okafor Victor, the rapper popularly known as Mr Real, over alleged criminal defamation of Nigerian music star D’banj.
In a court summons dated December 18, 2025, and obtained by the press, Chief Magistrate Farida Ibrahim directed Mr Real to appear in person before the court on January 19, 2026, to answer charges brought against him by the complainant.
The case stems from claims made by Mr Real in November, alleging that D’banj, whose real name is Oladapo Oyebanjo, failed to fulfil the terms of a ₦20 million ambassadorial deal.
In a petition filed before the court, Pelumi Olajengbesi, counsel to D’banj, requested the issuance of a criminal summons against Mr Real. He further urged the court to restrain the rapper, as well as anyone acting on his behalf, from making or circulating any further statements considered defamatory against the singer pending the determination of the complaint.
Specifically, Olajengbesi sought “an order of interim injunction restraining the defendant, whether by himself, his agents, privies, cohorts, representatives or any person deriving authority from him, from further making, publishing, disseminating, broadcasting, or in any manner circulating any defamatory videos, comments, statements, words or publications concerning the complainant/applicant, pending the determination of the direct criminal complaint.”
Following the petition, the magistrate ordered Mr Real to appear in court on January 19, 2026, to respond to the allegations. The court also granted an interim injunction restraining him from making any further statements about D’banj in any form until the matter is resolved.
