Four different DC characters are officially set to become Batman. The world’s greatest heroes have agreed to compete in the universe’s fiercest tournament in order to gain an unmatched amount of power they can use to fend off Darkseid’s imminent attack. DC K.O. gives everyone in the DC Universe the opportunity to participate, from the strongest heroes to the cruelest villains and the most famously street-level vigilantes.
DC K.O. #1 delivers a shocking twist with Batman’s death at the hands of the Joker, leaving the Justice League heroes without one of their best contestants. However, four heroes will take his place. Artist Dan Mora has unveiled his designs for DC K.O.‘s four new Batmen (via @Williamson_Josh), confirming that Damian Wayne, Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, and Jason Todd will now be DC’s Dark Knights.
Batman’s Former Sidekicks Are The Best Choices To Continue His Legacy
DC K.O. Is The Perfect Place To Have The Robins Become Batmen
Several Robins have worn the cowl after Bruce Wayne’s absence or death in multiple storylines. Batman: Battle for the Cowl sees Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, and Jason Todd fight for Bruce Wayne’s Dark Knight mantle, leading Damian Wayne to receive it. Damian also becomes Batman in Batman #666’s grim alternate future, where he sells his soul to the devil for Gotham’s safety, wearing a very similar Batsuit to his DC KO attire.
Dick Grayson and Jason Todd have also stepped into the role individually. Dick replaces Bruce Wayne following Bane’s defeat of Batman in Batman: Prodigal, succeeding Azrael. Tim becomes Batman in Titans Tomorrow, where he abandons Batman’s no-kill rule, as well as in Future’s End, where he replaces Terry McGinnis a.k.a. Batman Beyond.
Each Robin represents a distinct facet of Batman’s legacy, and together they embody what makes the Dark Knight a symbol of justice. Dick Grayson’s leadership, Tim Drake’s intellect, Jason Todd’s raw determination, and Damian Wayne’s discipline all reflect fragments of Batman’s essence. Together, they can be the definitive Batmen after Bruce Wayne’s death.
DC KO Teases Unexpected Tournament Rankings
No Contestant Is Guaranteed To Win Or Lose DC KO
One would think DC K.O. would rapidly prune the contestants with the lowest power first. Yet, characters like Hal Jordan, Blue Beetle, and Batman fall in the first round, while others like Harley Quinn, the Joker, Green Arrow, and the Robins survive unscathed. Batman’s death proves that no one’s victory is guaranteed in DC K.O., including all four inheritors of his mantle.
As Batman discusses with Superman and Wonder Woman in DC K.O. #1, a victory by someone like the Joker, or even someone like Jason Todd, could mean the tournament will only create a bigger problem. Superman quells Batman’s fears, but Batman’s early death has put the possibility back on the table.
