DC has just revealed that Batman and Superman share a major secret weapon. As seen in the pages of their World’s Finest series, one of the duo’s wildest adventures yet resulted in the coolest contingency they could ever have.
Paying off a temporary character design that captured the excitement of DC fans almost four years ago, Superman and Batman revisited one of their most epic fusions in the new Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #47 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora. However, the return of DC’s “Superbat” surprisingly looks to be more permanent this time around.
4 Years Later, Superman and Batman’s Fusion Body Returns (With A Catch)
In 2022’s World’s Finest #4, Green Lantern Hal Jordan’s power ring temporarily fused Batman and Superman into a single being. While this “Fusion” body didn’t last very long before Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne reverted to their own individual bodies, “Superbat” was very popular with fans thanks to a truly great design from artist Dan Mora.
Close to four years later, 2026’s brand-new World’s Finest #47 revisits that idea when Batman and Superman have Hal Jordan repeat the process, allowing them to fight the merged bodies of Lex Luthor and Joker as “Superbat”, as their own bodies were rendered incorporeal thanks to a device used by Joker.
The real twist comes when this device explodes by the issue’s end, reversing the effects with Joker, Luthor, Superman, and Batman reverting to their own bodies. However, the Superbat fusion body inexplicably remained this time, appearing to be an empty shell.
We Should Expect More “Superbat” Stories In DC’s Future
The final pages of World’s Finest #47 reveal that Batman and Superman chose to secretly store the fusion body inside the Fortress of Solitude, confirming that they’ll only use “Superbat” when absolutely necessary.
Given Mora’s very cool design and the character’s large popularity (the Superman/Batman fusion has since become a McFarlane Toys action figure), it’s clear that DC isn’t done with “Superbat” by any means. All things considered, we should very much expect Superman and Batman to eventually “break the glass” and fuse again in future DC adventures.
