In Superman Red and Blue 2025 Special, Superman travels to the distant planet Pentari and accomplishes the “torturous” challenge of entering its atmosphere, which kills most visitors on their way in or on the way out. Then, Superman locates a cave and retrieves a small piece of Calid crystal, which might be worth billions, or even trillions of dollars.

Flipping Kryptonite’s traditional dynamics, only someone as powerful as a Kryptonian can enter Pentari and get their hands on Calid crystal, which can instantly make them rich. As Superman explains, “galactic wars have been waged over a single ounce.” Yet, Calid crystal continues to be extremely rare in the DC Universe.

Fortunately, Superman only grabs a tiny amount of Calid to help Supergirl and Krypto pay the “billions in fines” they owe to the Kyrunian magistrate. By retrieving only the necessary amount, Superman spares the living beings attached to the crystals, and he saves Earth’s global economy from collapsing. For instance, Batman’s fortune stems from Wayne Enterprises, a tech and defense giant funding Gotham’s infrastructure. Luthor’s wealth comes from LexCorp, a global conglomerate controlling vast industries like weapons and biotechnology.

Oliver Queen’s Queen Industries, Ted Kord’s Kord Industries, and Black Adam’s access to Kahndaq’s ancient resources keep them near the top. Aquaman technically controls the world’s oceans, which makes him far wealthier than Batman himself. Meanwhile, characters like Maxwell Lord and Simon Stagg accumulate their riches through morally gray business ventures.

If Calid crystal entered the picture, the hierarchy of wealth in the DC Universe would be at risk of changing completely. A tiny fragment of Calid could instantly make a small-time villain wealthier than Luthor and Batman combined.
