Seriake Dickson, senator representing Bayelsa west, has dismissed claims that he has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The reports emerged earlier in the week, suggesting that the former governor of Bayelsa State had joined the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released on Friday, Ajiri Daniels, his aide, described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that Dickson remains a committed member and leader of the PDP.
Daniels explained that the senator temporarily withdrew from active political engagements to mourn the death of Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, former deputy governor of Bayelsa State.
He said Dickson has since been receiving condolence visits from friends, political leaders, allies and well-wishers from across the country, spanning different political parties and sectors.
According to Daniels, the former governor is closely monitoring political developments and will “consult widely with friends and political allies across the country before taking any decision, which will be formally announced”.
“But in the meantime, he remains a key leader in the PDP, hoping that the party will get its act right in view of its legacy contribution to Nigerian politics,” the statement added.
He urged Nigerians, party members and supporters to disregard the defection reports, describing them as fake news designed to mislead the public.
