The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Sunday reassured parents and concerned Nigerians that the military is intensifying efforts to secure the release of the schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Agwara, in Niger State.
In a statement titled “Defence Headquarters Efforts to Recover Abducted Children in St. Mary’s Catholic School, Agwara, Niger State,” the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the rescue of the pupils remains a matter of urgent national security.
“Concerted efforts are therefore being made to ensure their safety and quick reunion with families,” Onoja stated.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Defence Headquarters cautioned the public and the media against spreading unverified information, warning that such speculation could undermine ongoing operations.
Onoja said security agencies require an environment free from misinformation to carry out the delicate task of rescuing the children safely.
He urged parents, local leaders and community members to share credible intelligence directly with the military and other security operatives.
Reaffirming the military’s commitment, the statement added, “The DHQ appreciates the concerns of parents and reaffirms its commitment to safely recover all the abducted pupils. This undoubtedly remains a top priority, and efforts will continue until every child is returned to their family.”
