VETERAN journalist and media mogul, Dele Momodu, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s takeover by “anti-democratic forces.”
He has since aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), joining its opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of PDP Ward 4 in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu stated:
“Our party has been unarguably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them.”
He added that the majority of disenchanted PDP members would now rally under the ADC platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Momodu’s departure follows that of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who also recently exited the PDP in favour of the ADC coalition.
In recent weeks, Momodu publicly criticised the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of acting as a political mole for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 election.
He alleged that the APC is infiltrating opposition parties to suppress viable challengers in the lead-up to 2027.
“The ruling party does not want competition in 2027, so they are sending moles into any major opposition party,” he stated during a recent interview.
He also lambasted the Tinubu administration, claiming it has worsened Nigeria’s socio-economic conditions compared to the Buhari era.
“Is this the Nigeria of your dreams? Are you better off today than two years ago?” he asked rhetorically.
Momodu expressed optimism that the ADC-led coalition would serve as a credible alternative and pledged support for efforts to restore democratic ideals in Nigeria’s political system.
