Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta State, says states are now receiving increased allocations and warned that “some people” should stop telling Nigerians there is no money.
Oborevwori made the remark on Monday during the flag-off ceremony of the N39.3 billion Otovwodo Flyover project in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The governor said honesty demanded that Nigerians be told the reality of improved state finances, arguing that there was no justification for concealing the situation.
“I want to tell you something. Some people do not even know. More money are coming to the states. I am not a governor who will hide it. What am I going to hide it for?” he said.
He criticised leaders who continue to claim scarcity of funds, insisting that available resources should be deployed for public benefit.
“The money is coming from somewhere. Some people want to hide that there is no money; there is money. Use the money, as we are using it in our state. Use it in your state, so that the people will be very happy,” he said.
Oborevwori described the Otovwodo Flyover as another significant step in his administration’s drive to expand and modernise infrastructure across Delta.
“Today marked another milestone in our administration as I performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a flyover at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli North LGA,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
He said the junction plays a strategic role in regional movement, linking Warri, Asaba and Patani along the East–West Road corridor.
“Otovwodo Junction is a vital link to Warri, Asaba and Patani on the East–West Road Highway, making it one of the busiest roads in this axis,” he said.
The governor said the Julius Berger-handled project, valued at N39.34 billion, is designed to improve traffic flow while stimulating commercial activity within a 12-month delivery period.
“When completed, this project, being handled by Julius Berger at a cost of N39.34 billion, is expected to ease vehicular movement and boost trade and commerce, with a completion period of 12 months,” he said.
Oborevwori said the project reflects his administration’s broader commitment to responsible governance and people-focused development.
“At the ceremony, I noted that this government is redefining the social contract with our people through compassion, conviction and a culture of accountability in infrastructure delivery,” he said.
He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic authorities and remain patient throughout the construction phase to avoid congestion.
