Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a major political milestone.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with fellow members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), which he chairs, Governor Uzodimma said the development marks a significant moment for the ruling party.

He said: “When a governor joins our party, we view it as a significant event and a moment to commend ourselves and thank Almighty God.

“That’s exactly our sentiment. The Progressive Governors resolved today to celebrate this development and extend congratulations to one another.”

Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, officially announced his defection to the APC on Wednesday.

Uzodinma stated that such defections are not just symbolic but represent growing national recognition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and policy direction.

“Governors who were not originally elected on the APC platform are now aligning with our party. It’s a strong endorsement of President Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style and commitment to national unity,” he said.

He noted that the APC places high importance on sub-national governance and views Governor Oborevwori’s defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength and national cohesion.

The meeting of Progressive Governors, he added, also addressed national issues and reaffirmed their collective support for the policies and vision of President Tinubu.

“We’ll continue to champion the administration’s reform agenda and counter propaganda aimed at discrediting the government’s efforts.

“Despite the challenges, President Tinubu’s policies are beginning to show positive results. We pray God grants him the wisdom, courage, and strength to deliver even more dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people,” he concluded.
