ONE person has died and several others have been injured today following the collapse of a section of a nine-storey building under construction in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

Eyewitnesses report that the deceased was operating a cement mixer when the walls on the ninth floor fell on him, resulting in his immediate death.

Residents raised concerns about the quality of the construction work and questioned whether the owner had obtained the necessary approvals before starting the project.

In response, the Delta State Government has sealed off the construction site and ordered an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

The Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Michael Anoka, was present at the scene to assess the situation.

He stated that an investigation would be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“There will be a thorough investigation into the building, and the findings will be made public,” he confirmed.

This incident adds to the ongoing issue of building collapses in Nigeria.

Earlier this week, five people lost their lives when a structure collapsed in Lagos State. Also a few weeks ago, a section of a school building in Plateau State collapsed, resulting in numerous student fatalities.

Experts attribute the frequent building collapses in Nigeria to poor-quality materials, lack of professionalism, and various other factors.
