Delta: Onyah kingdom laments over activities of Sterling Global

Onyah Kingdom in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State has lamented the negative effects of the activities of Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited in the kingdom, while calling on the oil company to stop any activities that will further lead to the annihilation, threat to life and destruction of properties.

Onyah Kingdom made this known in a petition presented during plenary on Tuesday to the Delta State House of Assembly by the Deputy Majority Whip, Prince Emeka Osamuta, who represents Ndokwa East State Constituency.

NaijaOnPoint.com.ng (NOP) reports the subject of the petition is alleged threat to life, destruction to properties and attempt to total annihilation of Onyah kingdom and its people by Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited.

In the petition the people of Onyah Kingdom appealed to the House to wade into the matter with a view to saving them from total annihilation and extinction by Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited and its contractors or privies.

It also requested that Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited be directed to remediate the polluted and washed away lands of Onyah Kingdom caused by the operations of the company, its contractors or privies, and the cleaning of the polluted River Niger and Canals of Onyah Kingdom.

The people also requested that Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited be directed to pay adequate compensation to Onyah Kingdom for the houses, schools, post offices, graves and farmlands of Onyah people that were washed away as a result of their operations and that of their contractors and privies.

Onyah Kingdom requested the House to order Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited, its contractors or privies to stop any activities that will further lead to the annihilation, threat to life and destruction of properties in Onyah Kingdom and to give Community Liaison Officers(CLO) position to all the communities in Onyah Kingdom. The kingdom also asked the House to proffer any other resolution that will also assist to remedy the situation.

Following presentation of the petition, Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor referred the it to the House Committee on Environment, Oil and Gas for further considerations. The House, thereafter, adjourned plenary to Wednesday 4 September 2024.
