The Department of State Service (DSS) has arrested the leader of the dreaded Mahmuda terrorist group, Abubakar Abba.
Abba was arrested in Wawa, Borgu local government area of Niger State.
Confirming the capture of the terrorist leader, the governor of Niger State, Umar Bago said Abba has been moved to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
Bago in a statement issued by Bologi Ibrahim, his chief press secretary, said the terrorist leader was taken to Abuja for further investigation by the secret police.
According to Ibrahim, the governor also commended the operatives of the DSS for such a feat.
He also said that Abba’s arrest is evidence of President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s effort to secure the lives and property of Nigerians across the country.
“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, which is one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS.
“He was apprehended alive through an intelligence-led operation by the DSS. This is a huge victory for us as a people and as a government, and President Tinubu deserves commendation for this cheering news.
“Abba’s arrest demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to truly ending insecurity and promoting the well-being of Nigerians.”
