Details Emerge As Peter Obi, Gov. Otti, Rhodes-Vivour, Nenadi Usman, Other Labour Party Leaders Meet

Chieftains and stakeholders of the Labour Party (LP) held a strategic meeting as the build-up to the 2027 general elections continues to take shape.

Naijaonpoint reports that the meeting, held on Thursday, August 7, adopted far-reaching resolutions on the party’s activities and operations.

A statement, which was signed and released on Friday by the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the interim chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, Ken Asogwa, confirmed that the meeting was held virtually and was attended by several party stalwarts.

During the meeting, the LP chieftains reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and deepening democratic ideals in the country.

The meeting also passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman as the Interim National Chairman of the party.

“At a virtual expanded meeting of key stakeholders of the Labour Party held on Thursday, 7th August 2025, the leadership of the party adopted the following far-reaching resolutions among others: “The meeting unanimously commended the interim leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman and passed a resounding vote of confidence in her stewardship as Interim National Chairman.

“In light of recent developments within the political landscape – particularly as they concern the Labour Party – the meeting resolved to deepen its commitment to initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions and sustain the tenets of democracy in Nigeria,” the statement by Asogwa read in part.

The roll call of attendees at the meeting included the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti; Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman; Interim National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha; Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Labour Party governorship candidate for Lagos State in 2023; Mohammed Usman Misau, Deputy National Chairman; Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Deputy National Chairman; Deputy Governor of Abia State, HE Ikechukwu Emetu; Senator Victor Umeh; Senator Okey Ezea; Mrs. Maria Labeke, former acting national chairman, Labour Party; Rotimi Odunaike, Interim Chairman Labour Party, Lagos State; former president of the NBA, Mr. Olumide Akpata; BOT member, PA Lawson Osagie; representatives of the NLC and TUC.
