A former Bad Boy Entertainment executive is alleging that Sean “Diddy” Combs pushed for an elaborate public funeral for the Notorious B.I.G. while intending for the late rapper’s estate to cover the expense.
The claim appears in the new Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning. 50 Cent produces the doc.
Kirk Burrowes, who previously worked alongside Diddy at Bad Boy, recalls in the series that the producer often portrayed himself in the media as Biggie’s closest friend, though Burrowes argues that this portrayal did not fully reflect reality. According to Burrowes, the discussions about the funeral became strained once the projected cost grew.
Burrowes says Combs originally expressed a desire to give Biggie what he described as the biggest funeral New York had ever seen. He claims that once the planning began and the price became clear, Diddy said the cost should be charged back to Biggie’s estate.

“Sean said, ‘We’re gonna do the biggest funeral for Biggie that New York has ever seen’,” says Burrowes.
He continued, “We start to put that together, he starts to see the price. He says, ‘We’re gonna do the biggest funeral, but Biggie’s gonna have to pay for this funeral.’
He went on, “He was gonna make the funeral be a recoupable charge to Biggie in death. Sean doing a big show looks good on him. But he’s not gonna tell the world that Biggie was gonna pay for it.”
Biggie, whose legal name was Christopher Wallace, was killed in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997. His funeral took place on March 18 at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, where family members, Diddy, Faith Evans, Lil Kim, Lil Cease, D Roc and many others gathered to honor him.
