Sean “Diddy” Diddy is fuming from behind bars, and this time his anger is aimed straight at Netflix and longtime rival Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
With Netflix releasing the four-part docuseries Sean Diddy: The Reckoning today (December 2), the disgraced music mogul believes the streamer crossed every line by teaming up with 50 Cent, who executive-produced the project.
In a fiery new statement, Diddy blasted Netflix for giving creative power to what he calls a “longtime adversary with a personal vendetta.” He accused the production of using “stolen” footage that he says came from decades of personal archives he never approved for release.
According to Diddy, he began documenting his life at age 19 and always intended to tell his own story on his own terms. He insisted that using his private footage without permission is both unfair and illegal.
He did not stop there. Diddy singled out Netflix co CEO Ted Sarandos and even referenced the late Clarence Avant, Sarandos’ father-in-law and one of the most respected figures in Black entertainment. Diddy called the upcoming documentary a “shameful hit job,” making it clear he sees the project as a personal attack.
Netflix chose not to directly respond to Diddy’s accusations, but director Alexandria Stapleton defended the production in previous remarks. She stated that all footage was obtained legally and that the team has full rights to use it. Stapleton also explained that Diddy was contacted for interviews and comments multiple times and never replied, adding that Diddy’s habit of constantly filming his life created an unusually large and complicated archive.
After a lengthy trial this summer on charges involving sex trafficking and RICO violations, he was convicted on two lesser counts related to transporting individuals for prostitution. He was sentenced on October 2 to four years in prison, a major reduction from the potential life sentence he originally faced. Dozens of civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and other misconduct continue to pile up.
In a teaser for the Netflix series, Diddy is heard telling one of his attorneys that they were “losing” and that they needed someone willing to operate in what he described as the “dirtiest of dirty business.”
