Former soldier, Ruth Ogunleye has called on the Nigerian Army to release the findings of the investigation that led to her discharge from service.
Earlier in 2024, Ogunleye accused three senior officers, including Colonel Ishiaku Abdulkareem, of sexual harassment, intimidation, and threatening her life.
Ogunleye claimed that Colonel Abdulkareem made repeated sexual advances, which she rejected, leading to retaliation.
She alleged that her refusal resulted in being denied promotion courses, refused army pass requests, and even threats of dismissal.
Ogunleye also recounted that Abdulkareem forcibly evicted her from her living quarters and had her confined in a psychiatric hospital, where he falsely claimed she was mentally ill whenever she attempted to report him.
Naijaonpoint recalls that on September 24, Army spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu announced that the investigation had cleared Colonel Abdulkareem of all charges, while Ogunleye had been discharged from service.
The spokesperson further noted that during the investigation, Ogunleye’s mental health condition had reportedly deteriorated.
Reacting to this in a TikTok video, Ogunleye requested that the Nigerian Army publish the full outcome of the investigation, just as they publicized her discharge.
She emphasized that transparency was necessary so that the public could understand what really happened.
Ogunleye reiterated that her discharge from the army occurred on June 15, 2024, and urged the military to use its social media channels to release the investigation’s results.
“It is no longer news that I was discharged from the service on June 15, 2024. I humbly request that the Nigerian Army publish the outcome of the investigation that led to my discharge.
“On January 9, 2024, I came on social media to complain about how I was harassed by Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem, Colonel G.S. Ogor, and Brigadier General I.B. Solebo.
“I beg the Nigerian Army to post the outcome of the investigation on its social media platforms so that the whole world will know what truly transpired and what led to my discharge.
“I will be very grateful if my request is considered,” Ogunleye said.
