Disney Dreamlight Valley is adding two new characters in a surprise update next week. The official cozy game for all things Disney, DDV regularly releases new characters in periodic updates. These may include free patches, paid DLC, or even much bigger releases like the upcoming Wishblossom expansion.

This is the case of the former, with two free characters, Cogsworth and Lumiere, set to arrive in Disney Dreamlight Valley in an update coming October 1 (per the game’s official X-formerly-Twitter). This comes as part of the Return to Beast’s Castle update, which will be released for free that same day.

What To Expect From The Update

The Return to Beast‘s Castle update for DDV is coming on October 1, primarily bringing with it two new characters: Lumiere and Cogsworth. The promotional image for the update also shows off a new yellow gown, in a decidedly Belle-inspired style.

These characters will guide you as you explore more of Beast’s Castle, which previously featured in an earlier realm of the base game. It’s unclear at this point whether the update will expand the areas available for exploration within Beast’s Castle, or simply build on them with new quest content. You will need to have completed the initial Beast’s Castle quests in order to experience the new content.

What we do know, however, is that Return to Beast’s Castle also includes a new Star Path, a game mechanic that got a major update back in August. This comes along with new cosmetic rewards, motifs, and Moonstones.

It’s nice to see another free update coming to DDV, if not a total surprise. It fits right in with the free content roadmap, which, as previously announced on X, introduced new characters and quality-of-life features in its Inside Out update this summer, followed by a “return to an enchanting realm” before winter. Later this year, another free update is expected to follow, with the tagline “Make your dreams come true.”

Even so, given some players’ disappointment regarding paid character releases, a free update like Return to Beast’s Castle is certainly welcome. With new characters, new activities, and a new Star Path, this free update should keep even the most diehard fans of Disney Dreamlight Valley busy until the winter update rolls around.
