DJ Akademiks is caught in a fresh storm of controversy after comedian and podcaster Mona, known as Don’t Call Me White Girl, resurfaced her long-standing issues with him on a recent episode of the Joe Budden Podcast.
Mona first criticized Akademiks years ago during a No Jumper interview, calling out his early War in Shyrack series and saying he “made fun of kids dying in Chicago” while building his platform.
She argued that people who never lived street life should not be reporting on it, saying, “You can’t learn this in a degree. You can’t cover it if you don’t understand it.”

During the new episode, Mona reiterated her stance.
“I don’t really like Akademiks,” she said, adding that learning about his early content made her question “how people let that fly.”
Her cohosts kept mostly neutral, given Akademiks’ history with the show and its cast, leaving Mona standing alone in her critique.
Akademiks didn’t hold back in his livestream response, dismissing Mona as “not relevant enough” and accusing her of talking about him for attention. He also suggested Joe Budden might need to “keep the cast calibrated.” Ak claims Mona overtalks her cohosts, and they, too, are tired of her dominating the pod.
