‘Do Not Blame Tinubu, He Didn’t Create The Problem Nigeria Is Facing’ – Gov Eno

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu in light of Nigeria’s ongoing economic and security issues, asserting that the President inherited a nation in distress and should not be held accountable for challenges he did not cause.

In a discussion with State House reporters following a private meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, Governor Eno stated that President Tinubu merits support rather than criticism for the significant reforms he has initiated since taking office two years ago.

Eno’s remarks come at a time of increasing public dissatisfaction regarding inflation, the removal of subsidies, the devaluation of the naira, and security concerns—issues that many critics attribute to the Tinubu administration.

Nevertheless, the Akwa Ibom governor highlighted that these systemic challenges existed prior to the President’s administration and necessitate a united approach for resolution.

Characterising Tinubu’s initial two years as ‘remarkable,’ Eno encouraged Nigerians to evaluate the administration within its proper context, emphasising that transformative leadership often requires making unpopular choices in the short term to achieve long-term advantages.

“President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now,” the governor stated.

“And for me, I believe he is doing his best and should be supported to see it through.”

During his tenure in Akwa Ibom, Eno emphasized the accomplishments in education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, and market development, stating that his administration has prioritized grassroots improvement in its initial two years.

“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you’ll find that we are working. From schools to hospitals, to roads and markets—we are on ground,” he said.

Looking ahead, the governor promised a shift toward “super infrastructural development” and positioned Akwa Ibom as an emerging tourist destination.

“Our next focus is on major infrastructure. We want to make Akwa Ibom a tourist hub, and we are on our way,” he stated.

On youth development, Eno said his administration is prioritising job creation and entrepreneurship support to rebuild the middle class.

“We are investing in our youth. Through training, skill acquisition, and support for small and medium enterprises, we are building a system where young people can thrive,” he explained.

He commended the leadership development within the state, characterizing Akwa Ibom as fortunate to have experienced a series of visionary governors, including Obong Victor Attah, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Udom Emmanuel.

“It’s a foundation. You come in, you build. And I think the state is doing well compared to others,” he said.

The governor’s remarks reinforce a growing sentiment among some political leaders that President Tinubu should be given more time to stabilise the country, especially as his administration prepares to mark its second anniversary with a string of policy milestones and infrastructure rollouts.
