The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a strong warning to students across the country to beware of fraudulent websites posing as official student loan application platforms.

Naijaonpoint Media reports that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has raised an alarm over a fraudulent online portal making rounds on social media, falsely claiming that the Federal Government has reopened the student loan application platform.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, debunked the misleading message and urged the public to exercise caution.

“The attention of NELFUND has been drawn to a fraudulent message currently circulating online, falsely claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal,” Oluwatuyi said.

She warned that the fake website, which is being promoted through various online channels, is not affiliated with the official NELFUND platform.

The deceptive site:  https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/ — is being used to trick unsuspecting students into providing sensitive personal information such as their Bank Verification Number (BVN), phone number, and email address.

Mrs. Oluwatuyi emphasized that NELFUND will never ask applicants to submit information on any unofficial or third-party portal. She advised students and the public to always verify information directly from the official NELFUND website: https://nelf.gov.ng

“We urge all applicants to disregard any link that is not from our official site. Submitting personal details on fake platforms may expose individuals to identity theft, data breaches, and financial fraud,” she added.

How to Stay Safe:

  • Only use https://nelf.gov.ng for student loan applications

  • Do not submit your BVN or personal data to unknown links

  • Report fake websites and suspicious messages to the authorities

  • Follow NELFUND’s official channels for accurate updates

The student loan scheme remains a free and transparent process, and any updates or changes will be communicated by NELFUND through verified platforms.
