Domestic, foreign, transactions on NGX rise to N700.50bn in May 2025

The domestic and foreign investors flow into the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) equities market section stood at N700.50 billion (about $441.64 million) in May 2025, the latest report by the Exchange has revealed.  

According to the “domestic & foreign portfolio participation in equity trading” report for May 2025,  the total transactions of domestic and foreign investors at the nation’s  bourse increased significantly by 45.32per cent from N482.04 billion (about $301.90 million) in April 2025.

“The performance of the current month when  compared to the performance in May 2024 (N355.38 billion) revealed that total transactions increased by  97.11per cent. In May 2025, the total value of transactions executed by Domestic Investors outperformed  transactions executed by Foreign Investors by circa 66per cent,” the report stated. 

The report noted that the total transactions executed between the current and prior month (April 2025) revealed that total domestic transactions increased by 38.81per cent from N418.97 billion in April 2025 to N581.59 billion in May 2025. 

Also, total foreign transactions increased significantly by 88.54per cent from N63.07 billion (about $39.50 million) to N118.91 billion (about $74.97 million) between April 2025 and May 2025.

According to the report,  retail Investors out performed Institutional Investors by 16per cent. A comparison of domestic transactions in the current and prior month (April 2025) revealed that retail transactions increased by 86.12per cent from N181.31 billion in April 2025 to N337.46 billion in May 2025. 

“Similarly, the institutional composition of the domestic market increased by 2.72per cent from N237.66 billion in April 2025 to N244.13 billion in May 2025,” the report added.
