The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has reacted to reports linking him with a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Obi also clarified reports that reaffirm his allegiance to the coalition-led African Democratic Congress (ADC), noting that he has not expressed any views on the two parties.

The former Anambra State Governor, in a statement released on his behalf by Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) in Abuja on Tuesday, urged that words should not be put in his mouth.

Umar noted that the purported statement from Obi, denying his membership in the PDP and reaffirming his commitment to the ADC, did not emanate from him.

He added that Peter Obi remains focused on building a better Nigeria while political stakeholders are the ones speculating about his moves.

Naijaonpoint reports that the POMR cautioned that Obi has been clear about his position in the opposition coalition and would not accept anyone attributing a statement to him just to promote their selfish ambitions.

The statement read: “Peter Obi Media Reach-POMR has been made aware of a purported statement from our Principal, Peter Obi, denying joining the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and reaffirming his commitment to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

“The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party has been a subject of speculation in the political space even as he has remained focused on his mission for the establishment of a new Nigeria of our dreams.

“Peter Obi has been unequivocal in his position in the ongoing coalition and didn’t need anyone to put words into his mouth.

“He has remained focused on his mission but would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him just to satisfy their devious agenda.

“The media office wishes, therefore, to urge the public to disregard any statement purported to come from him outside his media office or his official handle.”
