Felix Nmecha has opened up about his blossoming friendship with Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka, revealing that their bond at Borussia Dortmund is rooted in their shared Christian faith, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Germany international, who joined Dortmund from Wolfsburg in July 2023, played a key role in BVB’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach by scoring the second goal.

After his Easter Sunday strike, Nmecha celebrated by kneeling and pointing to the sky — an expression of faith that echoes the values underpinning his connection with Chukwuemeka.

What Nmecha said of Dortmund teammate Chukwuemeka

Chukwuemeka only moved to Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in February with an option to make his stay permanent, but Nmecha reveals their friendship goes way back.

“We already know each other through these online things called Ballers in God,” said Nmecha after the match as per Ruhr24.

“As soon as he came here, we had a good connection, a good vibe.”

That spiritual connection is now translating into footballing chemistry.

The two midfielders have only featured together three times so far, but their performances suggest a promising partnership is taking shape.

“I have a very good feeling playing with him,” Nmecha added. “I know he just always wants the ball. I do too. And I think it’s working well.”

While Nmecha brings physicality and endurance as a box-to-box midfielder, Chukwuemeka offers technical flair and creative spark.

Together, they provide a balance of dynamism and control that could prove vital in Dortmund’s push for a top finish in the Bundesliga.

The duo will hope to continue their growing synergy when Dortmund face Hoffenheim next weekend. Their connection, both on and off the pitch, could become a cornerstone of Niko Kovac’s plans in the final weeks of the campaign.

Off the field, both players also share ties to Nigeria.

Nmecha, born to a German mother and a Nigerian father, represented England and Germany at youth level before committing to Germany in 2023. He now has three senior caps and one goal for Die Mannschaft.

Chukwuemeka, meanwhile, is still eligible for England, Austria, and Nigeria.

Though he’s featured for England at youth level, the 21-year-old’s path to the senior Three Lions setup remains uncertain — opening the door for a potential switch to Nigeria. Current Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is believed to be monitoring him closely.

If Nigeria qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Chukwuemeka could become a central figure in what’s shaping up to be a golden generation. For now, his focus remains on building momentum — and friendship — at Dortmund.
