The Atlanta native skyrocketed to fame in 2014 when his single “Tuesday” went viral. The track reached new heights after hip-hop superstar Drake jumped on the remix, helping it land at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The collaboration earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and secured iLoveMakonnen a spot on Drake’s OVO Sound label.
However, in 2016, iLoveMakonnen parted ways with the label, citing “creative differences.” His time in the spotlight soon became complicated by personal and professional struggles. The rapper came out as gay in 2017, later saying that the revelation led some in the industry to distance themselves from him.
