The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has stated that he is not a party to the announced expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and several others by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He clarified that the matter was not discussed by the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee (NEC) before the motion was presented at the ongoing National Convention in Ibadan.
Governor Mutfwang’s position was made known in a statement on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.
“The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” the statement read.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Plateau State Governor has become the second Governor to distance himself from the announced expulsion after the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, also distanced himself from the decision.
Instead of expelling Wike and others, Mutfwang recommended dialogue as a way to resolve the party’s internal challenges.
He further stressed the need for unity, dialogue, and collective effort in rebuilding and repositioning the PDP for the future.
It would be recalled that the PDP had on Saturday, expelled Wike, Fayose, and Samuel Anyanwu.
Their expulsion was announced during the ongoing PDP convention held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Former National Vice Chairman of the PDP (South), Olabode George, moved the motion for the immediate expulsion of the three high-profile members.
The motion was promptly seconded by the Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, Hon. Samaila Buga, paving the way for the convention to adopt it.
