Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the arrest of two of its former operatives, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly impersonating the agency and engaging in fraudulent activities.
In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday afternoon, the DSS confirmed that both men, who were dismissed from the service some time ago, were apprehended after being found using the agency’s name to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
According to the security agency, the suspects will be charged to court and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The statement reads in part:
“Recall that the Department of State Services (DSS) recently issued disclaimers on two dismissed personnel of the Service, Barry DONALD and Victor Onyedikachi GODWIN. These individuals were alleged to be cloaking under the Service to engage in fraudulent activities. The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution in accordance with the law.”
The DSS further stated that it has resolved to publish the names of other dismissed personnel to help the public identify them and avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
“The Service has further resolved to publish the names of other personnel, who were dismissed in the past, to prevent citizens from falling victim of possible criminal intent of any of these individuals,” the statement added.
The agency also encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the DSS.
For requests, enquiries, or complaints, the DSS advised members of the public to contact the service through its official phone line 09088373515 or via email at [email protected].
