The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested an Osun State-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, following the circulation of a video in which he and members of his group called for a “Free Palestine” protest.
Sheikh Molaasan, identified as a leader of the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was taken into custody after the footage went viral on social media, triggering security concerns among authorities.
According to Sahara Reporters, the arrest is part of ongoing intelligence‑led operations by the DSS to monitor public gatherings and online mobilisation that could escalate into threats to public order.
Naijaonpoint understands that the service has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrest.
However, it was gathered that operatives are examining the content, context and intent of the video, as well as the activities of the group involved, within the scope of Nigeria’s internal security laws.
The arrest comes amid heightened surveillance by security agencies over protests and religious mobilisation, particularly those connected to international conflicts, as authorities move to prevent potential spillovers into domestic unrest.
At the time of filing this report, details of the charges or possible court proceedings against Sheikh Molaasan by the DSS had not been made public.
