The newly elected chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has vowed to work towards reuniting former party members to create a solid coalition to regain control of the state in 2027.

Naijaonpoint reports that the PDP elected Peter Nwele as its new chairman during the state congress held over the weekend in Abakaliki, the state capital.

In his address during the event, Nwele emphasized that Ebonyi has historically been a stronghold for the PDP and asserted that the party will make a significant comeback in 2027.

The congress was overseen by a seven-member committee from the party’s National Secretariat, along with representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and various security agencies.

“Ebonyi State has been PDP for a long time, and it will continue to be PDP. People say that there is a crisis in the PDP, but there is no crisis in the party.

“The only thing we want to do now is to embark on bringing those who left the party back.

“PDP is a very large family that will accommodate all of us. So, we are ready to start bringing everyone back home.

“We are for forgiveness; we make peace for people to come back home so that we take back our lost mandate,” the newly elected Ebonyi PDP Chairman stated.

Ugonna Ogbonna, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, characterized the event as both peaceful and transparent, praising party members for their orderly conduct.

In addition, Chief Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman for the South East region of the party, expressed that the enthusiasm and affection for the PDP within the state and across the nation remains robust.

He asserted that the party is actively organizing its efforts to reclaim power from the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Odefa rejected any notion of discord within the party, stating, “there has been total reconciliation, the NWC is united, we are united.”

He urged the newly elected executives of the party in the state to focus on comprehensive reconciliation efforts.
