Ebonyi State Approves New Minimum Wage Increase for Workers
The Ebonyi State Executive Council has approved an additional ₦20,000 increase in the minimum wage for civil and public servants across all levels.
The decision was announced on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Ikeuwa Omebeh, following the council’s meeting. He explained that the increment is part of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers in the state.
According to Omebeh, the council also deliberated on the 8-year tenure policy for Directors and directed the immediate retirement of all Directors who have already served eight years.
“EXCO, after an exhaustive deliberation on the matter, approved immediate implementation of the policy on affected Permanent Secretaries and Directors. In line with the Governor’s determination to better the lot of Ebonyi civil and public servants, EXCO approved a further increment on the current minimum wage of Ebonyi State workers with an additional ₦20,000 across board,” Omebeh said.
Governor Nwifuru had previously increased the minimum wage in 2024 to ₦75,000, following the signing of the new national minimum wage law by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
In addition to the wage increment, the council also confirmed the appointment and swearing-in of three new Special Assistants (SAs) to the Governor in the areas of Housing, Security, and Commerce & Industry.
Governor Nwifuru charged the new aides to remain proactive, dedicated, and focused on contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of Ebonyi State.
