Edo 2024 : Asue should join us to campaign – APC mocks PDP candidate

In a big twist in Edo State’s politics, a recent court ruling has caused a stir among political parties ahead of the upcoming governorship election. The Federal High Court decision canceled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s primary election that picked Asue Ighodalo as its candidate, leading to reactions from his competitors.

Court Ruling and Its Impact

The court questioned how the PDP conducted its primary, especially excluding 378 delegates from voting in February 2024. This exclusion was deemed illegal, prompting challenges and, ultimately, the cancellation of Ighodalo’s candidacy.

Responding quickly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council called for cooperation. Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo, speaking for the APC, said the ruling helps prevent forcing unpopular candidates on Edo people. The council invited Asue Ighodalo to join Senator Monday Okpebholo in their campaign to “change the state for the better.”

PDP’s Reaction and Clarity

The PDP moved to clear up misunderstandings about Asue Ighodalo’s status as a candidate after the ruling. A statement said despite the court decision, Ighodalo is still their candidate for 2024. The PDP dismissed rumors trying to unsettle their supporters.

“The candidacy of Dr. Asue Ighodalo for the 2024 elections is still firm,” Aziegbemi said, asking supporters to stay calm.

Philip Shaibu Feels Vindicated

Former Deputy Governor Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, a critic of the PDP’s primary, felt proven right by the court’s ruling. Shaibu had concerns about the primary’s fairness, claiming legitimate delegates were kept out. He called the court’s decision a win for democracy and Edo people.

“I said from the start that what happened at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium was unfair,” Shaibu said. “The real voters were absent, and now my stance is clear.”

What’s Next?

Edo State’s politics is changing fast after the court’s decision. It will shape how APC and PDP plan for the election. The focus is to rebuild trust in voting and meet voters’ hopes for good government, jobs, and progress.

As tensions rise and parties plan, the next weeks are crucial for Edo’s future. Voters want leaders who can bring stability and make progress.
