Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo says his administration will continue to focus on job creation, enhanced security, and sustainable development through transparent and accountable leadership.
This is contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Fred Itua, on Wednesday in Benin, to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.
Okpebholo, who congratulated the people of the state, both home and abroad on the anniversary, described the Edo people’s indomitable spirit as unique and irreplaceable.
The governor reflected on the creation of the state on August 27, 1991, and paid tribute to past leaders, acknowledging their sacrifices and vision that laid a strong foundation for development.
“Today is not just about a date; it is a time to reflect, acknowledge our achievements, and recommit to a prosperous Edo,” he said.
Okpebholo highlighted the state’s achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic growth, despite numerous developmental challenges.
He noted that the state’s forward movement was powered by its people’s determination, unity, and continuous push for innovation and sustainable growth.
“We are proud of our legacy. From the Benin ancient kingdom, we inherited a rich culture and governance, which fueled today’s progress and our future vision,” he said.
The governor called for unity among residents in the state, stressing that the state’s success lied in collective efforts beyond ethnic or political differences.
“Building the Edo of our dreams is everyone’s duty; let’s unite and support efforts to transform our state into a beacon of prosperity.
“As we celebrate this milestone, let us renew our hope and commit to progress,” he said. (NAN)
