EDO: NSCDC commandant Agun Gbenga dies at event in Benin

Edo State

THE Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State, Agun Gbenga, has passed away after collapsing during an event in Benin City.

Gbenga had just delivered a goodwill message at a programme organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre when he suddenly slumped yesterday.

Eyewitnesses expressed shock at the incident, noting that he appeared healthy upon arrival at the venue.

He was quickly rushed to the Military Hospital but was confirmed dead.

Confirming the development, the NSCDC spokesperson in Edo State, Efosa Ogbebor, described Gbenga as a diligent officer whose service to the corps and the nation left a lasting impact.

“As an astute operations officer, Commandant Agun Gbenga worked tirelessly to safeguard lives and property. His humility, intelligence, and dedication earned him respect and admiration. He will be deeply missed,” the statement read.

The corps extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and the public, acknowledging the loss of a committed officer dedicated to duty and excellence.
