WATCH THE VIDEO HERE THE newly sworn-in Edo state governor, Monday Okpebholo, has mandated an immediate and indefinite halt to the collection of all revenues in the state, particularly in motor parks and similar areas, until further notice. In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hon. Fred Itua, it was noted that the governor has instructed the state commissioner of police to arrest anyone who violates this order. Governor Okpebholo mentioned that he will soon review the issues related to revenue collection and decide the next steps. “The collection of revenues in the state has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone found collecting revenues on behalf of the state government will be arrested. “The Commissioner of Police is directed to apprehend anyone who disregards this order and collects any form of revenue on behalf of the state government. “The governor will soon address the concerns raised and will issue new directives shortly. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenues on behalf of the state government.” Okpebholo was sworn in yesterday as the governor of Edo, marking the end of Godwin Obaseki’s eight-year tenure in the South-South state. The ceremony was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, two months after the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured the ticket for the Dennis Osadebe House. Okpebholo took his oath of office alongside his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, at approximately 12:55 pm, and subsequently rode an open van around the stadium, greeting supporters who cheered him on.
