Edo PDP Chairman Denies Allegation Of ₦12 Billion Fraud By Party Chieftains

The chairman of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee, Tony Aziegbemi, has dismissed allegations by Governor Monday Okoebholo that some party chieftains siphoned ₦12 billion from local government chairmen over a 15-month period.

The governor made the accusation on Tuesday while addressing acting local government chairmen in his office, sparking widespread controversy within the party.

Reacting to the claim, Aziegbemi challenged the governor to provide concrete evidence to substantiate his allegations.

“Such money was not given to PDP leaders by the suspended council chairmen,” Aziegbemi said.

He further advised the governor against taking the law into his own hands and urged him to refer any such matter to the state’s anti-corruption agency.

Aziegbemi said, “No such money was given to PDP leaders and we challenge the governor to bring evidence to support that claim. He should touch on specific, who got what, when, how and from who.

“As the state chairman, i am telling you with all sense of responsibility that I am not aware that such money was given to any one.The route the governor is taking to justify the illegal suspension of the chairmen is unreasonable.

“Even if any money was paid to anyone, we expect the governor to report to the anti corruption agency to investigate. We are in a country and a state where the rule of law should prevail.

“The governor is just throwing figures and belittling the office governor of Edo State.”
