EDO: PDP rejects planned council by-elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has rejected the planned conduct of council bye-elections in the state, describing the process as “a kangaroo exercise.”

In a statement signed by Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the PDP in Edo State, Chris Nehikhare, on Monday, the party said the move was “illegal, unconstitutional, and a blatant disregard of a subsisting court order.”

“The body or group of persons parading themselves as organisers of this exercise are unknown to law and lack the authority or powers to conduct elections of this nature,” the party said.

PDP further noted that councillors had already been duly elected in the 192 wards across the state and that their tenure would not expire until September 2026.

“No contrived process can truncate this democratic mandate,” it stressed.
