The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its congress to elect Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen, executive committee members, and one national delegate from each of the 18 LGAs will hold on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the party said the exercise would commence simultaneously at all PDP local government secretariats across the state from 8 am.
The announcement follows the successful conduct of ward congresses last week, where executives were elected into the party’s 192 wards.
The party called on all delegates, aspirants, and members to participate actively and maintain peace during the exercise.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the Edo PDP assured that the congress would be transparent, credible, and constitutionally guided.
In other news, an Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City has restrained the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) and the state government from proceeding with planned local government by-elections across 59 wards in the state.
The order, granted on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, by Justice Mary E. Itsueli, followed an ex parte motion filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP, through its counsel, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi, Michael Ekwemuka, and P. W. Akwuen, argued that the tenure of councillors in the affected wards remains valid until September 2026, making any move to declare their seats vacant unlawful.
