The law prohibits the spraying or mutilation of naira notes at social events and prescribes penalties including fines, imprisonment, or both. Public criticism of the EFCC escalated after the video emerged, with many Nigerians accusing the agency of selective justice. While celebrities like Bobrisky, E-Money, Iyabo Ojo, and comedian AY have faced interrogation or prosecution for similar offences, Tompolo appeared to have been ignored — until now. The backlash triggered widespread debate over the EFCC’s consistency in law enforcement, especially given Tompolo’s influential role in the Niger Delta and his federal contract to secure oil pipelines. However, the EFCC confirmed Tompolo would be investigated, declaring: “Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer.” Speaking in a recent interview with TVC New, EFCC chairman, Olukoyede confirmed that the agency has invited Tompolo and urged Nigerians not to condemn him for what he desrcibe as mere allegations because the viral video showing him abusing the naira is still under forsenic analysis. He said; “We have invited Tompolo and every Nigerian knows that we said nobody is above the law. Nobody should go and condemn Tompolo for the allegation – it’s just a mere allegation for now. “So, when he comes, we look at it, we have subjected the video to forensic analysis because these days people impose things.
