The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detailed how it carried out its anti-corruption work between 2023 and 2024, recording huge recoveries and thousands of convictions within the period.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Commission in a statement said it recovered N364.5 billion and $326.5 million, while also monitoring the disbursement of different government intervention funds.

These include the PL-CNG scheme, NG-CARES, NACA Global Fund, SESET, AMCON loans, and several Central Bank of Nigeria facilities such as COVID-19 relief packages and conversion loans.

During the one-year review, the EFCC received 15,724 petitions, out of which 12,928 were investigated.

From these cases, 5,081 were taken to court, leading to 4,171 convictions, while 2,348 remain in court.

The agency explained that these results show its effort in safeguarding national resources, curbing corruption, and ensuring that public funds reach the intended beneficiaries.

It added that all recoveries and convictions were carried out under due process and court supervision, which has boosted confidence in its work.

“These figures are not just numbers; they represent deterrence, restitution, and a firm statement that corruption will not be tolerated. The Commission’s work goes far beyond internet fraud. We are protecting national assets and ensuring that critical intervention funds reach their intended beneficiaries,” an EFCC source stated.
