Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the crescent Moon for the Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH has been sighted on Tuesday evening.

As per the sighting, the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah will begin on Wednesday (May 28).

According to the Islamic calendar Eid al-Adha or Bakrid will be celebrated in the kingdom on Friday (June 6).

This development was announced in a post on X by Haramain, a Saudi-based online news platform on Tuesday.

Dhul Hijjah is the month in which Muslims worldwide journey to Makkah to perform hajj, which is the fifth pillar of Islam.

According to Haramain’s message, “June 5 would be the day of Arafat,” while “June 6 would be the day of Eid-el-Adha.”

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria (SCIAN), Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar lll, Monday, advised Muslims ummah to start looking for new moon of Zulhidjah from Tuesday and report its sighting to the nearest district heads for onward communication to Sultan.

This was contained in a press statement issued to newsmen in Sokoto by the chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sultanate Council Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto.

The statement reads: “This is to inform Muslims ummah that Tuesday 27 May, 2027, which is equivalent to 29th of Zulqa’ida 1446 AH shall be the day to look for moon of Zulhijjah 1446 AH.

Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for new moon of Zulhijjah on Tuesday and report its sighting to the nearest district heads for onward communications to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar lll CFR mni.”

Month of Zulhijjah is the last month of Islamic calendar and it is the month Muslims perform hajj exercise being one of the pillars of Islam and ei-dle adha, another rite ordained by Allah.
