THE Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed as false a viral claim alleging that he stated which region of the country should produce the President in 2027.

The viral claims alleged that the African Democratic Congress chieftain said it was the South’s turn to produce the next president and that he was inclined to support Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Responding today via his verified X account, El-Rufai described the reports as fake and misleading, stressing that he never made such statements in any speech, media interview, or on any of his official social media platforms.

According to him, it is incorrect to attribute opinions or commentaries written by other authors to him, even when he shares such articles as part of broader national discourse.

He warned that the deliberate spread of false information amounts to irresponsible politicking and undermines public trust.

El-Rufai urged journalists, editors, and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing it, noting that society suffers when media professionals fail in their duty to uphold accuracy.

He also cautioned against giving credibility to platforms that thrive on misinformation.

Reiterating his position, the former governor said no views should be linked to him unless they are clearly expressed through his official channels or during interviews with reputable media organisations.
