Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing senior officers of the Kaduna State Police Command of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

In a petition dated September 8, 2025, El-Rufai alleged that the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State and some officers had engaged in acts he described as “unlawful and unconstitutional.”

The former governor, in the petition, said he was acting in his capacity as a citizen and demanded urgent action from the PSC.

“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command,” El-Rufai wrote.

The petition comes against the backdrop of a worsening face-off between El-Rufai and the Kaduna Police Command.

On August 30, 2025, the former governor and some opposition politicians were reportedly attacked by suspected political thugs during a meeting in Kaduna.

El-Rufai accused police officers of colluding with the thugs, claiming they stood by and watched while the attack was carried out.

Amid the controversy, reports last week indicated that the Kaduna State Police Command had invited El-Rufai and six senior members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning.

Naijaonpoint reports that they are being investigated over alleged offences including criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

El-Rufai, however, maintains that the real misconduct lies within the police command itself, insisting that only a transparent investigation by the PSC would restore public confidence.

As of press time, neither the PSC nor the Kaduna Police Command had issued an official response to the petition.
