Emir Sanusi Demands Death Sentence For Kano Murder Suspect, Others

Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has urged the Kano State Government to ensure that anyone found guilty in the recent massacre of a family of seven should be sentenced to death.

Naijaonpoint reports that the Emir made the remark on Monday, while speaking with journalists on the brutal killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children in the Chiranci Dorayi area of Kumbotso Local Government Area over the weekend.

The monarch warned that sparing killers would only encourage more violence, and suspects should not be spared.

Sanusi also prayed for the souls of the victims and asked God to grant the family and the wider Muslim community the strength to bear the loss.

He said, “If a person kills and is allowed to go free, then the killing of innocent people will never stop.”

Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of three principal suspects in connection with the killings, identifying the alleged mastermind as 23-year-old Umar Auwalu, a resident of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters and a nephew of the deceased woman.

Police sources who spoke with Arewa Punch disclosed that two of the children, including a newborn, were later found inside a nearby well.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out between the night of January 17 and the early hours of January 18, under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
