THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent criticisms from governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of misleading Nigerians with what it described as “empty rhetoric.”
The ruling party’s response followed a communiqué issued by the PDP Governors’ Forum after its meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday, where the governors alleged that the just-concluded by-elections were marred by intimidation and the heavy deployment of security forces.
They also accused the Federal Government of anti-democratic practices.
In a statement released today in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described the PDP governors’ remarks as “hypocritical and comical.”
The party argued that the PDP had been weakened by internal crises and had consistently been rejected by Nigerians at the polls.
“It is laughable for governors of a party in deep crisis, crippled by its own failures, to level accusations that better describe their own doomed political fate as the 2027 elections approach,” the APC stated.
The ruling party also highlighted its recent by-election victories as evidence that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda was resonating with the electorate.
It further accused PDP governors of poor governance despite receiving what it called the “highest-ever federal revenue allocations” under the current administration.
“Even with allocations exceeding ₦2 trillion as of July 2025—more than double previous levels—the PDP governors continue to disappoint their citizens with dismal performance in their states,” Morka said.
The APC also accused the opposition of inconsistency, claiming PDP leaders only celebrated democracy when they won elections but condemned it whenever they lost.
The party insisted that the PDP had failed to present Nigerians with any credible alternatives over the past three election cycles.
“These governors are in no position to dictate to Nigerians how they should approach the 2027 elections,” the statement continued.
“The PDP has nothing new to offer, while the APC remains committed to economic recovery, growth, and national renewal.”
The ruling party urged Nigerians to ignore what it described as the PDP’s “misleading distractions” and reaffirmed its confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership.
