Hilary Umunna, the Regional Manager for South East Airports and Manager of Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), has expressed confidence that the new airline, Enugu Air, will significantly enhance passenger traffic, increase revenue for both the Federal and State governments, and create job opportunities within the aviation sector.

Umunna, speaking on Friday after the airline’s official reception at the airport, stated that the arrival of Enugu Air is set to create positive economic ripple effects for Enugu State and the entire Southeast region, stimulating growth in trade, tourism, and business activities. He emphasized that one of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)’s objectives is to strengthen partnerships that will help position Enugu as a key aviation hub.

Having previously contributed to the establishment of Cally Air while serving as the Calabar Airport Manager, Umunna highlighted that AIIA has made significant strides to meet international standards and ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) regulatory requirements.

This includes infrastructure upgrades, improved ground handling services, enhanced security measures, and compliance with international safety protocols. Furthermore, coordination among stakeholders has been streamlined to ensure smooth operations for the airline.

Umunna expressed excitement about the new partnership, saying, “I am honored to welcome Enugu Air to Akanu Ibiam International Airport. Their presence will enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and support our vision of making Enugu the leading aviation hub for the Southeast.”

He assured that AIIA is committed to providing seamless and efficient operations for both the airline and its passengers, paving the way for further growth in the region’s aviation industry.
