Enugu APC Exco Rejects Dissolution By NWC

APC

The embattled executive committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State chapter, has rejected its dissolution by the national working committee of the party during its 179th meeting held on 9th October 2025 in Abuja.

The committee’s position is contained in a release signed by its chairman, Barr Ugochukwu Agballa, and secretary, Mr Titus Ezeagu. They claimed that the committee had not breached any rules of the party and that the Chairman of the seven-man caretaker committee set up by the NWC, Dr Ben Nwoye, had long resigned from the APC.

The statement read in part, “That APC, Enugu State, was not informed of any constitutional breach or any form of infraction ever committed to have informed the decision of the NWC.

“That the constitution of the APC duly provides a fair hearing to members and all organs of the party through a constitutionally empowered disciplinary committee in any case of constitutional infraction. That no disciplinary committee was held nor were we at any time invited to such a committee, which is a contravention of the universal rules of fair hearing.”

The duo cited APC’s constitutional provisions in Article 21B (VI) D, which provides that “the zonal executive committee (southeast) is the constitutional organ of first instance to intervene in the affairs of state organs of the party under its zone in matters requiring disciplinary action and make recommendations to the National Working Committee (NWC) for further actions.”

“The dissolution of the APC Enugu State is strange, unknown to the laws of the party, and an act of impunity that will be resisted by the entire state, LGA and ward organs of the party,” the statement added.

On the legitimacy of members of the caretaker committee, the statement stated that “onlyone person among the people appointed as the members of the caretaker committee is a registered member of the party, with the rest constitutionally either expelled or suspended for various forms of anti-party activities by their wards, local governments and state organs of the party and duly ratified by the southeast zonal executives.

“It’s on record that Dr Ben Nwoye, who was pronounced chairman of the committee on 17th April 2025, formally announced his resignation from the party, which was covered by the print, electronic and social media. At that press conference, he disparaged the national leadership of the party,” according to the release.

They therefore submitted that “the state executive committee of APC, Enugu State, hereby reject the resolution of the NWC meeting of 9th October 2025, as it grossly negates the constitution of our great party.

“We therefore call on all our party organs from the wards, local governments, and zonal and state levels to remain in their offices as elected officials of the party and to discharge the responsibilities of their offices and be law-abiding as we continue to consult with our members and stakeholders at both state and national levels for further action and ignore any purported dissolution of the party.”

The statement directed members of APC in the state “not to attend any meeting or gatherings not approved by the lawfully elected State Executive Committee of APC”.
