THE Governor of Enugu, Peter Mbah of Enugu State has expressed his sorrow over the tragic death of Okezie Mba, the well-known Enugu musician commonly referred to as Igbo Jah.

According to a statement from DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Enugu State Command, the musician was reported to have been leaving the Tactical Squad’s Headquarters following a friendly visit when, for reasons still under investigation, a police officer discharged his weapon, striking him.

The incident took place around 8:10 p.m. on October 25, 2024, at the Tactical Squad’s Headquarters. The officer, who is part of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Enugu State Police, has since been apprehended and is currently in custody.

In a statement released yesterday, the governor described the incident as “unfortunate.”

“With deep sorrow, I received the news of the untimely passing of Okezie Mba, also known as Igbo Jah, under such tragic circumstances. This is a significant loss for Ndigbo as a whole, and especially for Ndi Enugu.

“He was a prominent talent from Enugu and a key figure in promoting Igbo culture through his Ogene music.

“I have been informed by the police and have ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ensure justice for him, his family, and his fans across the globe.

“On behalf of Ndi Enugu, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and fans. May God grant him eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
