ENUGU: Police arrest contractor over ₦1b fraud

Adejobi addressed reports claiming that the Enugu State government’s account had been hacked, resulting in the theft of ₦1.09 billion.

The NPF clarified that this incident was related to procurement fraud rather than a cyber breach.

The statement also noted that the funds have been recovered from the contractor following the arrest. However, Adejobi did not disclose the contractor’s name.

“The Nigerian Police Force categorically rejects the false narrative and rumors circulating online regarding an alleged hack of the Enugu State Government’s official account, which supposedly led to the theft of ₦1.09 billion.

“This claim is entirely unfounded. There has been no hacking of the Enugu State Government’s account, and the allegations of theft totaling ₦1.09 billion are completely baseless.

“The investigation, conducted by the NPF National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC), revealed that this was a case of procurement fraud, not a cyber breach.

“The suspect has been arrested in connection with this fraud, and the funds have already been recovered.

“The Enugu State Government, along with various ministries, departments, and corporate entities, is collaborating with the NCCC to implement robust security measures to protect their financial systems.

“Citizens are encouraged to avoid spreading misinformation and to verify the credibility of news sources,” the statement concluded.
