FULHAM beat Wolves 3-0 at Craven Cottage today in an English Premier League clash that involved three Super Eagles of Nigeria stars.
Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were in the starting line-up for Fulham, who brought on Samuel Chukwueze as a second-half substitute, while Tolu Arokodare came on after the interval for struggling Wolves.
In other Premier League fixtures today, leaders Arsenal extended the gap on top to seven points with a 2-0 victory at Burnley, Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 at home to Manchester United, while Crystal Palace and Brighton secured comfortable wins.
Wolves’ season continued to go from bad to worse after Fulham condemned them to another damaging defeat to keep them winless and bottom of the Premier League.
Ryan Sessegnon, Harry Wilson and Yerson Mosquera’s own goal ended Fulham’s own four-game losing run, while Wolves’ Emmanuel Agbadou was sent off in the first half.
The visitors did little to prove their wretched start would end in west London and have now lost eight of their 10 league games, leaving them eight points from safety.
Fulham piled on the misery when Sessegnon struck early, seizing on a mistake from Santi Bueno, and it got worse when Agbadou was dismissed nine minutes before half-time – after his clumsy foul on Josh King denied a goalscoring opportunity.
Wolves never recovered and Sam Johnstone denied Kenny Tete and Wilson but the Wales winger secured victory, which lifted Fulham to 14th, with a fine low finish from 20 yards.
There was still time for Mosquera to turn the ball into his own net with 15 minutes left to add to Wolves’ woes, before Chukwueze hit the bar late on for Marco Silva’s side.
At Turf Moor, Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice netted for Arsenal as they eased past Burnley.
Gyokeres’ opening goal came from a corner as the Gunners set a new record: they are the first side in history to score eight goals from corners in the first 10 games of a Premier League campaign.
Super Eagles striker Awoniyi made his third consecutive appearance for Forest from off the bench after his horrendous head injury at the end of last season, and the hosts ended Manchester United’s winning run at three games.
Cote d’Ivoire forward Amad Diallo rescued a point for United with a stunning volley after goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona had given Forest the lead.
Casemiro opened the scoring for Ruben Amorim’s side with a brilliant header after a controversially awarded corner kick, but Forest responded superbly with two goals in as many minutes at the beginning of the second half.
