Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has played down his altercation with teammate Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s 4-0 thrashing of Mozambique on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over the Mambas of Mozambique at the Complexe Sportif De Fes on Tuesday.
It was their easiest game yet, as every player delivered a solid performance. Goals from Osimhen, Akor Adams, and Lookman were more than enough to secure the victory for the three-time champions.
The team’s performance has earned praise from many Super Eagles fans. However, one specific event during the match has overshadowed Nigeria’s comprehensive display.
In the second half, Osimhen had an altercation with Lookman, complaining that the Atalanta star was being selfish by refusing to pass the ball.
He was also seen making rude remarks to Onyemaechi. Then after these actions, he asked coach Eric Chelle to substitute him.
After the game, Lookman was asked about what happened, but he downplayed the matter, insisting that it was not important.
“I have not seen Osimhen but I don’t think that matters, Vic is our number one guy, everybody knows this, he’s a top striker. So, all of that doesn’t matter,” Lookman said post-match.
Meanwhile, Osimhen has three goals in this tournament, and it is important to note that it was Lookman that provided the assists for all those goals.

It has become a common sight to see him throwing tantrums when he does not get the ball, and that is not a good attitude. It is not even the first time he is letting his anger and ego get the better of him on the pitch, he has had other cases in the past.
On Tuesday, when the team should have been rejoicing, the spotlight was on him and his clash with Lookman instead.
If this continues, it could divide the dressing room. And that is the last thing that Chelle would want.
Chelle has to put his foot down and have a discussion with his players so that an event like the one that happened on Tuesday does not repeat itself.
