The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani has confirmed her defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her defection was confirmed to Daily Post on Sunday afternoon by her media aide l, Maulud Usman.
He stated that the politician flew into Yola on Saturday evening and made the declaration of her defection to a few family members and friends.
According to the media aide, the declaration was a quiet one with no invitation for media coverage.
He said however that Binani would be back in Yola soon for a more elaborate identification with her new party.
Naijaonpoint recalls that Binani had contested and lost the 2023 gubernatorial election against incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Fintiri emerged victorious with 430,861 votes, while Binani came a close second with 398,738 votes.
She served as Senator for Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023 and previously represented Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Her husband, Professor Ahmed Modibbo, is a prominent figure from Yola and is touted as one of the richest individuals in the state.
Naijaonpoint reports that her defection is coming days after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although, he is yet to official announce his new party, the former Vice President is expected to join Binani in the newly adopted opposition coalition platform.
